The most difficult point to explain about Andy — and what we are talking about here — is that his entire approach is an inversion of ‘normal’ artistic sentiment (art supposedly being about profound subjects and highly skilled technique) yet you have to grasp the orthodox artistic canon in order to appreciate how intense and interesting his vision is. It’s asking a lot, and most people — even art academics — just don’t get it.
